Cigar Retailers Supporting the Troops
The U.S. military make incredible sacrifices for our country – time away from family and friends, putting themselves in harm’s way in places halfway around the globe. . . and sometimes, they make the ultimate sacrifice with their life. One cigar shop in Richardson, Texas is showing its gratitude to our men and women in the military by sending weekly shipments of hand-rolled cigars to military addresses all over the world.
John Michaels, owner of City Cigars located just north of Dallas, started the “Hero Cigars” program as “a way to get good smokes to the troops and to do something in return for their sacrifice,” he told The Collins County Business Press. “Sending cigars – ‘smokes’ to cigar aficionados – to service men and women has long been a popular cause in the cigar industry. Most of the major cigar makers have been sending special care packages to American soldiers since their involvement in the Middle East conflicts,” the Business Press adds.
Other similar programs include Cigars International’s “you buy a box and we will donate a box” offer for the military around Christmas, while TheCohibaClub.net talks about a Cigars for Troops program launched by “Gary’s Cigars Blog” on About.com.
By all accounts, the cigar donations are much appreciated by our service men and women, so next time you stock up on your favorite stogie, consider sending a cigar care package overseas!
